Strength and Patience

I'd like to talk about two things today. About strength and patience.
So as you might or might not know - I'm a Christian. I believe in God who sent His only son to die for us. And I also believe that God, the almighty God who created everything, wants to have a relationship with you and me. A deep, intimate personal relationship. You can walk through every struggle and trial towards the victory. That doesn't mean it's gonna be a piece of cake - that just means you will have a really (REALLY) good ally on your side.
So what I wanna assure you about today is that it's OK to NOT be ok sometimes. It's OK to have struggles. You can't be happy ALL the time. The only thing that matters is your attitude while walking through these challenging times. Nobody is perfect, of course, and it's not even expected from you to be strong enough all the time. Well this world maybe does expect that from you, but certainly not God. He doesn't expect you to always be strong and always have it together. He puts you in these trials so He can draw you near to HIM. He wants you to rely on Him. HE WANTS TO BE YOUR STRENGTH. Have you ever heard of that super cool verse? It's in Philippians 4:13, , "For I can do everything through God, who gives me strength." So the point I'm trying to make here is - let God be your strength. Let Him walk you through this. Let Him lead you. Let Him take care of this.
Haha I can almost hear you asking, "But HOW?"
That's actually a pretty good question and it's also pretty hard to find a satisfying answer to it. It depends a lot on the type of situation you're in. What I'm saying is - if you have a huge test tomorrow at school - you can't really say, "Well God - be my strength tomorrow so I can pass this test." and then watch a movie instead of studying (to be honest - I've been there! :-D maybe not exactly, but I've been in a pretty similar situation ;-) - so I feel ya guys! I feel ya! :-)). In this type of situation you just gotta suck it up and study. But the good news is - you can ask God to help you - to give you the strength to pick up the book. Yes - the final move of opening the awful grossly thick book will be on YOU but you can still ask God for the strength to do it.
Well and then there's this other type of situation you can find yourself in. That type of situation when you're just going through some tough time - maybe your boyfriend/girlfriend dumped you, maybe your best friend is spreading gossip about you, maybe you don't even have any friends ... I could go on and go on. In THIS type of situation it is ok to just let go and let God. He WILL help you to get through this. You just have to accept the fact that you're in a bad situation and that God is the only one who can give you the strength you need. And please don't get me wrong here - it's ok to talk about this with your friends, with your mom/dad, with people who are close to you. And they can help you too. They can be the shoulder to cry on. They can give you the hug, they can cheer you up. But honestly - depending only on people to give you the strength isn't really smart. I mean - they're just as imperfect as you are. And yeah - having friends is great (I recommend it haha ;-)) but having GOD as your best friend is just much better. Don't be afraid to cry to Him, rely on Him. All it takes is to spend time with Him. Read the Bible. Spend some time in worship. Pray. Sometimes just be still and let Him talk to you. There's nothing better than FEELING GOD'S PRESENCE in the hardest times. I've recently found out that the hardest times are also one of the best times because I hear God the most, I feel His presence the most, I recieve His guidance the most.
So yeah - this is HOW you do it. Just be with God. Spend time with Him. Invest some time in this relationship - it'll be worth it - trust me!
The other important thing you gotta realise is you can't expect the results right away. As you see I'm getting to the second thing I wanna talk about today. Patience. Be aware of the fact that things take time. Rome wasn't built in a day! So don't think all it's gonna take is one/two days of suffering. Sorry to break that to ya, but that's just not how it works. And yeah - patience sucks (a LOT!) but guess who's there to help ya? That's right - GOD! He's waiting and hoping you turn to Him and ask Him for help. Sometimes it's good just to focus on Him and not on your problems or on your situation. Jesus once said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest". (Matthew 11:28). So rest in Him. Don't get frustrated because of all that's happening.
But the truth is in order to become strong, you gotta walk through some challenging trials. I really like this quote by Jean-Jacques Rousseau, "Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet."
So get ready because it will take time.
It will be hard. It will suck. BUT eventually - IT WILL BE WORTH IT.
